The football team at Sekers Fabrics used to practise on the fields by the weaving sheds. Their play was visible, on-site and open to spectators and supporters across the hierarchy of the firm. Members of the Sekers family, for instance, would often go and watch games.
During the 1960s the football team was coached by David Boyd and they played a number of local companies, including Smith’s Paper Factory, the Haig Pit, the Calder Club and Quaker Oats.
When the beaten finalists photograph was taken, the team had just lost to Deer Orchard of Cockermouth, which today is one of the longest running Sunday league teams in the country.
